The Ten Commandments In The Life Of The Nation

By Oliver Woods

Recommitment to the Ten Commandments came before every instance of national reform recorded in the Bible. Thus, the modern concept of separation of church and state is exposed as a sham.

Church and state are assigned unique tasks by God in the Bible, and both are accountable to the Word of God. Thus, any attempt to separate God and state or the law of God and the state can only result in judgment for the state.

The book of Nehemiah is a great example. This book describes the return of a band of Jews to Jerusalem under Nehemiah and their rebuilding of the city walls. After the work is completed, there is an assembly of the people for reading the the law of God, which led to repentance and renewal of the national covenant (cf. Neh. 9 & 10).

But that was then and this is now. Do these things still apply to us today under the New Testament?

The Lawful Use of Law

The operative rule is assume the laws of God continue to be binding unless modified in some way by the Divine Lawgiver in subsequent revelation. For example, we know that the various Old Testament ceremonial observances are no longer obligatory because of the work of Christ on the Cross. His perfect sacrifice became the final offering for sin, replacing the ceremonies, which were "a shadow of things to come, but the body is of Christ" (Col. 2:17).

On the other hand, we should assume that judicial case laws such as the requirement of double restitution for theft continue to be authoritative (see Ex. 22:4). Nowhere does the New Testament or any subsequent revelation rescind laws such as this in the Old Testament.

Sometimes we find that the Mosaic judicials are repeated in the New Testament. For instance, in a single verse (Mark 7:10) Jesus mentioned one of the Ten Commandments and one of the case law illustrations as both being part of the command of God not to be rejected. This was the Fifth Commandment to honor father and mother (Ex. 20:12) and the case law penalty attached (Ex. 21:17).

In addition, we find other New Testament writers appealing to case law recorded in the books of the Old Testament without apology. For example, the apostle Paul applied the case law regarding the ox treading out grain to pastoral pay in 1 Timothy 5:17-18. This is sometimes referred to as the "general equity" of the law, which is deduced from its specific cultural setting in Israel and applied to the present.

But the laws of God do not have to be repeated in the New Testament in order to remain binding on the civil magistrate. For example, the law against bestiality is repeated several times in the Old Testament, but never in the New Testament. Obviously it remains in force today.

The Unlawful Use Of Law

Seeking to conform our personal and national life to the laws in the books of the Old Testament is not legalism. On the contrary, it is obedience. Legalism has reference to a variety of man-made traditions, as per the Pharisees. This is another unlawful use of law in addition to the ceremonial observances mentioned above (cf. I Tim. 1: 8-11).

There is a popular misperception that Jesus rebuked the Pharisees so harshly because of their attempted conformity to the law found in the books of the Old Testament. Rather, Jesus reprimanded the Jewish religious leaders "for laying aside the commandment of God." (Mk. 7:7-9, RSV). America must abandon her Pharisaical ways and return to the Law of God or we will surely drink the cup of His judgment. - 38623

Thomas Jefferson And The Cult Of The AntiChrist

By Oliver Woods

Could Thomas Jefferson be AntiChrist? It Depends On How You Define The Term.

A favorite evangelical parlor game is "Where's AntiChrist?" It's like "Where's Waldo?", except that it grows in popularity whenever some new, power-figure emerges on the world scene: Mussolini, Hitler, Kissinger, Reagan, Obama, etc., etc.

Alas, all evangelical predictions have thus far been disappointed. It's too bad they don't take their own Bible literally. The AntiChrist -- more accurately the Beast -- had to be someone whom John's contemporary readers could "calculate the number of" - somebody alive back then (Rev. 13:18). According to Ken Gentry in "The Beast of Revelation," Nero fits the description of the Biblical "Beast" to a "t".

But that's a story for another time. For now we're considering Herb Titus' defense of the Declaration of Independence as a Christian document in his book called, "The Declaration of Independence: The Christian Legacy" (Titus Publications, 1995).

Is a man who believed what Thomas Jefferson believed capable of writing what Mr. Titus says he wrote? Ultimately, we'll leave you to answer that question, gentle reader. But consider the facts.

Jefferson The AntiChrist

Thomas Jefferson may not have been a Deist, but it is quite clear from his writings that he was a unitarian. His letter to Dr. Benjamin Waterhouse of June 26, 1822 contains these words: "...I trust that there is not a young man now living in the United States who will not die an Unitarian." In other words, he denied the Deity of Christ and thus any universal authority He would possess as "Lord of lords and King of kings."

As noted above, most Christians believe that the AntiChrist will arise in the last days as a supreme dictator. However, the Bible itself tells us that the antichrist is not just one person, but many.

"Children, even now many antichrists have arisen...They went out from us, but they were not really of us... (I John 2: 18, 19). A few verses later (2:22) we read: "This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son."

When we hold the life and writings of Thomas Jefferson up to this standard it is quite obvious that he was an antichrist. He "went out from" or departed from Biblical orthodoxy in denying that Jesus is the Christ. Thus, by definition he is a heretic, or "the holder of an unorthodox position" (Oxford American Dictionary).

Thomas Jefferson was not the AntiChrist that most Christians are looking for but he was an antichrist. He has forsaken orthodoxy and is thus a heretic who has "gone out from us."

Can AntiChrist Write A Christian Document?

If this is true, it leads us to the crux of the matter. How wise is it for Christians to base their doctrine of civil government on the words of a heretic, no matter how beautiful the prose in which those words are presented?

How is it possible for one who denies the Deity of Christ to defend the Lordship of Christ over the realm of the civil magistrate? I suppose anything is possible. God did make a donkey talk one time.

Is it not more likely that Jefferson's Declaration is a humanistic defense of the alleged rights of man, apart from any consideration given to the glory of God and His law. The time has come for Christians to reject this idol and return again to the law of God. - 38623

The Face Of The New American Politics

By Giles Sweetwater

There are several people that are tired of what they have to represent them in our nations capital. They want change that they are able to put their faith behind, these people are looking for a person that will give a voice to the American people. This will be the new American politics.

One of these faces is called the Tea Party. This party considers itself to be an off shoot of the Republican party. This as a result means that they are considered to be not as right as their conservative counterparts but still hold a lot of the beliefs that the Conservative party holds onto. While some people have said that this party is not 100% pro American, there are those that can say that this party is looking to get the country back to a place that it once was.

There is the Coffee Party, this is the Democrats answer to the Tea. These two parties being involved in the political process sounds like they need to be at a social gathering. This can a lot of times lead a person to be confused as to what exactly do these parties actually stand for. The one thing that is clear is that they stand for Getting America back on track.

Before these beverage parties came into existence, there was the green party along with Constitution Party these two were designed to stand for the average American and not be associated with what was wrong with Washington.

There are those that will tell you that the two party system is the best thing that s going for this country. There is a problem with this though. It leaves a person having to make a decision that is limited to just one of two people.

There was once a time that the right person was who got the job to run our country. Those days are now gone, as a party is designated to run our country and not a person. The time is changing that the politics of this country will bring the power back to the American people.

The new American politics is one that will present the American people with a lot of choices in the upcoming election. Remember it's your voice, let it be heard loud and clear. No matter what party you belong to, we are all American at the heart. This is a very important time in our country's life, let the best person lead us for the next four years. - 38623

Know The 2010 Political Predictions

By Aaron Morgan

2010 will be a hard year for politicians all over the world. Hard times make for low approval ratings, especially for incumbent politicians, who usually get the blame for everything that is going on, even if the current troubles are largely the fault of their predecessors. Elections across the globe will continue to see the same trend as those held in 2009, with the politicians and parties that are in power before the elections suffering losses, and perhaps even losing their power completely. There has been a serious drop in the trust and respect held by the people for their politicians in many countries, partly due to the economic crisis, and this is likely to continue in 2010. Many voters are likely to feel more apathetic, with disillusion against the entire political system becoming a more significant factor in many elections than a desire for change or to see a particular party in office.

In the US, incumbent politicians of both parties are likely to suffer from decreased popularity, however, it is going to be much harder to gather support than it was during 2008's presidential elections, when there was such a great drive for change.

This could have a significant impact on the US 2010 midterms, which are to be held on Tuesday November 2nd. During this election, all of the 435 seats in the House of Representative are to be contested, along with 36 of the 100 Senate seats. There will also be elections for governorships in 38 states and a number of other state and local elections.

It seems likely that the Republicans will see their party gaining some seats in the House of Representatives, and possibly even becoming strong enough to take back control of the House. Many of the seats that are likely to change hands are currently Democratic. The strength of the predicted Republican gains might only be very moderate, however, and in order to wrest control of the House from the democrats, they would have to work against the current Democrat standing that has 39 more seats that is necessary to control the House of Representatives.

There have only been two cases in which, in the first midterm of their presidencies, more than 39 seats were lost to the election: in 1994 under President Clinton and in 1946 under President Truman. It is perfectly possible for the Democrats to lose control of the House in 2010, but it is perhaps equally likely that, despite their losses, they manage to just about keep control. There is still time for either party to strengthen their hold on the electorate. - 38623

The Matter Of DWI And DUI Holds A Lot Of Myths Which Are Simply False

By Bill Rogers

It is simply dangerous to drive a vehicle if intoxicated. Studies expose that the vast majority of people in the country believe drunk driving to be one of the nation's most critical social challenges, more significant than health care-related issues, homelessness, racism, and education. Most people in the US find impaired driving by others as a main danger to themselves and their loved ones.

The percentage of auto mishaps attributable to drinking is in reality not known. Alcohol-related collisions contain accidents that are clearly not caused by alcoholic beverages; as, for example, when a driver who has been drinking is sitting at a red light and rear-ended by a sober but negligent driver.

At one time, over twenty-five percent of fatally injured motorists had BACs of at least .10. Certainly, drinking was not a cause of some unknown quantity of these tragedies.

Only one fatality caused by alcohol consumption is one too many. Each and every such fatality is a pointless catastrophe that forever traumatizes numerous others.

The topic of DWI and DUI includes a lot myths which are simply incorrect.

Sucking on pennies will lower your BAC level. False: Sucking on pennies or other copper has no impact on alcohol breath tester BAC results.

Hypoglycemia brings about acetone in the breath, which the Breathalyzer will record as alcohol on the breath. True: Regrettably, about one of seven drivers is diabetic and at an increased risk of false arrest and conviction for DUI/DWI.

Field sobriety assessments, being based on scientific principles, perfectly identify drunk drivers. False: A study showing police videotapes of individuals undergoing common field sobriety tests, and asking them to choose whether suspects were too inebriated to drive legally, reported inaccurately 46% of the time. The use of field sobriety tests generated judgments by law enforcement officers that were about as correct as a coin flip.

In the event you believe you have been wrongfully charged with a DWI offense, it is definitely worth consulting with a legal professional who deals with DUI defense near you. - 38623

Historical Overview Of The Creation Of An Old Tax In The United Kingdom

By Tayyab Khan

In order to explore the historical facts about an old taxation system on windows in the United Kingdom, read on. The window tax was a tax which was introduced into the United Kingdom in the late 17th century by King William the third. He was finding it hard to find a way to tax people based on their income or wealth because many people refused to tell the king how much they earned. They felt it was a completely private matter and certainly no business of the King.

Of his subjects, the King decided that the most fair method of taxation would be by looking at the size of people's houses. Each person who owned a house would have to pay a fixed fee of 2 shillings. This is about 10 pence in the new system. As well as this, if the house was large and contained more than 10 windows, there were extra taxes to pay.

If the house had between ten and twenty windows, then this extra tax was 4 shillings and anything over twenty windows had to pay eight shillings. Later, as the king wanted to increase the tax, he reduced the minimum number of windows to be taxed from ten to seven. This was further changed in 1825 to eight windows.

Poor subjects who were eligible for the church's charity could claim an exemption. This was irrespective of the number of windows their dwelling contained.

In order to evade this tax, residents resorted to bricking up extra windows. This occurred mainly in the 17th and early 18th centuries. In Scotland, this tax was not introduced until the 1780s by William Pitt the Younger. Even here, residents painted over their windows black with white crosses. These became known as Pitt's pictures. A visitor to Charlotte's Square in Edinburgh can still see these windows on some of the houses.

It may be possible that in contrast to this, many of the richer families actually had extra windows designed into their houses. They commissioned properties with as many windows as possible. Even blank walls had window facades to create the look of more windows. - 38623

A Decade Of Teens Going Jobless

By Larry Wetter

This economy is obviously wreaking havoc with people's lives. Jobs are so hard to find that many people are just giving up. It doesn't seem to matter who you are or what you do, most likely your job is at risk. This has been going on now for a couple of years and there doesn't seem to be any end in sight.

People don't understand that when something like this occurs, it will possibly affect life for an extended time. One of many hardest hit groups that want jobs is teens. A lot of them are searching for go to work for the first time and many of them are striking out. The teenage years are important improvement years and that features the coaching they obtain from their first job opportunities.

Teens probably don't need work as much as older people who have families but it is still important for them. Teenagers need those first jobs to put on their resumes and it is vital for them to get their feet wet in the real world. Jobs don't just provide money but they also teach responsibility and how to deal with other people.

Everyone has to get their first job sometime but the earlier you get one and the more jobs you have early on help you later in life. If we go 5 or 10 years with many teens never having a job, how is that going to affect their performance later on when they finally get one? Are they going to know how to deal with co-workers and management?

Right now we may potentially have a generation of young workers who will never learn proper job skills. This will hurt them and the employers who ultimately hire them. Their lives will be impacted as they struggle to make up the ground they lost early on when they should have been working but were unable to get hired anywhere.

We hear on the news regularly how awful it out there for people looking for work but we hardly ever hear analysis on how it's going to affect our country down the road. What's bad right now might have costs much later on that few of us realize. It looks as if the complex times are right here to stay. - 38623

Tips On Care Packages For Military Overseas

By Danny Newton

Sending military care packages overseas to our friends and loved ones doesn't have to be difficult. Often, I'm asked for military care package ideas. So I thought that I'd put just a few of the very best tips together for sending support to our soldiers overseas.

Remember to write a letter. Your letter or card doesn't need to be four pages or say something awe-inspiring. Just a note will do. While stationed overseas, even the simple routines back here at home are nice to read about. If you have trouble writing, or get stuck on your note, try keeping a journal. Write a few lines to your soldier now and then when you think of him or her. You can even date the pages to share your days with your loved one. It won't take long to amass quite a bit to send and your soldier will be able to see how often she or he is in your thoughts.

Next, figuring out what to put in a military care package doesn't have to give you a headache. You don't have to figure out the perfect gift. If you're only going to send a single package while your soldier's deployed, put some thought into it. But wouldn't it be better to send smaller, more common items more often? It'll be a lot easier to fill the package if you know that you'll be sending another in a week or two with the things you might have forgotten. If your soldier has a taste for jelly beans and peppermints, make a package out of that. Next week, you'll come across something else for him or her. Uncle Sam isn't going to let our men and women go hungry - so we're trying to find little "extras" to show our support. Its not Christmas, that only comes around once a year - we're just trying to send something to let them know we're thinking of them and maybe tastes good too.

Stay away from items that are issued by the military. Things like socks and underwear are taken care of in most cases. If you're unsure, ask your soldier what he or she might need. Its very possible that there's more sunscreen than they need at a certain base, so ask about things like that. Also, if you can contact them, ask what types of entertainment they have at the base. Find out if there's a DVD player there, or even video game. New release movies are always popular but make sure they can watch them first and never send an "adult only" stuff overseas.

Lastly, if your daily routine becomes too busy and you don't have time to shop for all the items and mail a package yourself, search for military care package websites where you'll find a wonderful selection of military care packages to choose from and customize. They'll send the package, along with a handwritten card directly overseas to an APO or FPO address for you. It only takes minutes and is a simple way to show your love and support.

It's imperative that we show support for our nation's men and women who are stationed overseas. For those of us with friends and family members currently deployed, its essential. We should all remember the importance of showing our support for the troops. - 38623

The U.S. Government's Irresponsible Spending Has To Stop

By Scott Johnson

It has been one whole year since the 2009 stimulus bill was passed and it is still in the news almost every day. Many people still don't fully understand that that bill was meant to give money to businesses as well as state and local governments and not individual people.

The stimulus bill did create some new jobs and perhaps that was the best way to have benefited from it. There was also some aid to people who needed mortgage assistance but that was hard to qualify for. People continue to look for grants from the government hoping to find new ones that came about from the stimulus but there just aren't any.

Unfortunately, people fortunes have not gotten better from the bill. Today there is still high unemployment and jobs continue to be extremely hard to find. When you think about our economic troubles today, one might wonder if we got anything at all from that 787 billion dollar bill?

Whenever there is news about the government passing legislation of that size, there are many people who think the government is just handing out money. They could be remembering the stimulus check that many people got during President Bush's last term and hoping there will be another windfall like that coming in the mail. That stimulus was meant to spur on the economy and the most recent stimulus bill was meant to try to save the economy.

People should know that there never has been anything that is really free money, as it has to be paid for in some way. It is too bad more people don't pay taxes so that they can understand and feel the pain when taxes are raised. If higher taxes impacted everyone, more people would be opposed to them and maybe politicians would think twice before throwing away our tax dollars. - 38623

British Soccer Legend Robson Dead At 75

By Ross Everett

One of England's most beloved sporting figures, Sir Bobby Robson, yielded to his courageous fight with cancer recently at the age of 75. Even the often critical British press had nothing bad to say about the universally respected Robson, headlining their obituaries with adjectives like The Bravest Knight or simply The Legend.

Robson enjoyed a productive career as a player that spanned 20 years and was spent primarily in the English Premier League with Fulham and West Bromwich Albion. He also earned twenty 'caps' in International play for England, scoring four goals.

After his retirement in'68 as an active player, he found more fame as a team manager both in England and on the international level. In the EPL, his guidance transformed Ipswich Town from a laughing stock to a league powerhouse and he would lead the club for well over a decade. He would also serve as the England National Team manager for 8 years, as well as managing club teams in Portugal and Spain. He ended his career in British football with a stint as manager of Newcastle United that ended in 2004.

Robson earned even more love and admiration from his countrymen due to his public battle with cancer. Although a brain tumor left him partially paralyzed in 2006, he never wavered in his commitment to English football or to raising money and awareness for cancer treatment. After being diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in 2007, he dedicated the rest of his life to helping others with the same diagnosis. He started the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, and raised well over one million pounds for the Sir Bobby Robson Cancer Trials Research Centre in Newcastle.

Even two men who seldom see eye to eye on anything--Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho and Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson--were in agreement on Robson's greatness:

"I wanted to and I will keep with me always the Bobby Robson of every day, a person who had extraordinary passion for life and for football, with an extraordinary enthusiasm. Bobby Robson is one of those people who never die, not so much for what he did in his career, for one victory more or less, but for what he knew to give to those who had, like me, the good fortune to know him and walk by his side. My thoughts and embraces go to all his loved ones."

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson shared these touching comments:

"In my 23 years working in England there is not a person I would put an inch above him. I was never too big or proud to ask him for advice, which he gave freely and unconditionally. And I'm sure I am speaking for a lot of people when I say that. I mourn the passing of a great friend, a wonderful individual, a tremendous football man and somebody with passion and knowledge of the game that was unsurpassed."

"His character was hewn out of the coalface; developed by the County Durham mining background that he came from. His parents instilled in him the discipline and standards which forged the character of a colossal human being. He added his own qualities to that which he passed on to his sons. The strength and courage he showed over the past couple of years when battling against his fifth bout of cancer was indescribable. Always a smile, always a friendly word with never a mention of his own problems."

"The world, not just the football world, will miss him. Let's hope it won't be long before another like him turns up because we could never get enough of them."

Many EPL clubs will honor Robson in some form or another during the upcoming season with a number of more lasting tributes planned. Several statues and other permanent forms of remembrance are reportedly under consideration. - 38623

Organ Donations Could Be Saved By 'Opt-Out' System

By Tom Doerr

Experts predict that an extra 300 vital transplants per year could be carried out if people were asked to 'opt out' of donating rather than the current 'opt in' system. The existing system requires people to register their wishes for donation on the Organ Donor Register but it is fundamentally flawed as people are often willing donors but do not get round to joining the register.

If consent was presumed by default, it would force anyone unwilling to donate an organ to actively 'opt-out' and everybody else would be eligible for donation. It would then mean that the NHS would be able to transplant organs from the vast majority of the UK.

The public opinion is startlingly divided in the UK, with many people claiming that organ donation should be altruistic. However, the system is currently very successful in several EU countries. Currently in the UK, over 400 people each year die while on the organ waiting list, something that the NHS believes can only be helped by significantly increased donations.

According to Sheila Bird from the Medical research Council Biostatistics Unit in Cambridge, if a 'presumed consent' system had been in place for the last 10 years and 10% of people had opted out and another 10% of families' overruled donation, 2,880 extra organs would have still been available.

Writing in the British Medical Journal, Professor Bird said "Twenty years after the UK's first confidential audit, we continue to jeopardise substantial quality adjusted life years (uncounted by the Organ Donor Taskforce) for those awaiting transplantation by chasing a holy grail of enhanced consent by means other than presumption."

Professor Bird argues that presuming consent would ultimately cut costs, prolong life as well as saving bereaved families from anxious deliberation in deciding what happens to their loved ones organs. - 38623

Memories Of A Champion: Alexis Arguello

By Ross Everett

Alexis Arguello, one of the greatest boxers to ever compete, was found dead in his Managua, Nicaragua home in early July of an apparent suicide. He was 57 years old. Arguello was the mayor of Nicaragua's capital city at the time of his death.

Arguello is best known to fight fans for his epic battle in'82 with Aaron The Hawk Pryor when he moved up in weight after dominating at lighter weight classes. Though Arguello would lose via knockout (amid some controversy due to an apparent mystery drink offered to Pryor by his trainer Panama Lewis) it was a thrilling toe to toe battle that even the most knowledgeable boxing experts remember fondly to this day. Promoter Bob Arum offered these thoughts on Pryor/Arguello:

"It was a brutal, brutal fight. That was something I will never, ever forget as long as I live. That was one of the most memorable fights I ever did."

Arguello is arguably the best lightweight and junior lightweight in the history of the sport. Arguello never lost a fight at-0 pounds and would end his career with an astounding 82-8 record with 65 knockouts and championships in three different weight classes. At the time, he was only the sixth man in boxing history to hold title belts at three different weights.

Ironically, Arguellos career didn't get off to a good start and he lost his debut in'68 via first round TKO. After that, he seldom lost again. He was at his best against his toughest adversaries including Ray Mancini, Bobby Chacon and Ruben Olivares. Bob Arum remembered him not only as a great fighter, but as a great man:

"Not only was he one of the greatest fighters I've ever seen, he was the most intelligent fighter. He was a ring tactician. Every move was thought out. And he was a wonderful, wonderful person."

Arguello was also very quick to remind younger fighters on their responsibility to the sport and how champions should conduct themselves. Here's he speaks of his attitude toward his opponents:

"Of course after the fight you want to make sure that you're okay and so is the other guy, its a brotherhood in there, so you want to make sure everyone is okay after the war is over."

Arguello would frequently admonish boxers who didn't show the same respect for the sport or their status as champion:

"When you won that title you should know now that you are representing a whole country or nation with your actions and you are now in a glass house or under a microscope and you better be ready to make your people proud."

Most significantly, Arguello loved boxing and sought to protect it from those who would undermine its greatness:

"I respect boxing because it has given me so much and thats why I will never allow anyone to mistreat the sport of boxing if I can help it."

While the modest Arguello would never say it himself, that was for from a one sided debt and he contributed more than his fair share to the sport of boxing with his grace, intelligence, talent and toughness. - 38623

Wheelchair Access At Polling Stations 2010

By Clare Westwood

During this year's general election voting a wheelchair user had to be dragged up steps into a venue in order to be allowed to vote. There were no provisions made and even when it became apparent that disabled access was nonexistent polling staff made little effort to help.

Azheem Ditta, of Accrington, has told the story of how he was told that he could not vote due to there being no wheelchair access at his local polling station in a primary school in Accrington.

Mr Ditta claimed that officials refused to assist him after he was unable to enter the polling station via the large steps leading up to the door. There was no attempt to make the polling station wheelchair friendly.

The family of Mr Ditta then had to drag his wheelchair up the steps which caused his wife to slip and injure herself in the process. Mr Ditta was finally allowed to vote after they had struggled with his wheelchair in order to gain access into the building. Mr Ditta feels he is owed an apology for the 'disgusting' treatment he received.

This year's elections were marred by complaints and controversy with many people being refused and unable to vote before the 10pm poll station closing time.

One council spokesperson said of Mr Ditta's case, "When looking for polling stations we do try our best to identify buildings with disabled access. However, in one or two cases across the borough, this isn't always possible.

The fact that Mr Ditta could have been prevented from casting his vote if his family hadn't of physically carried him and his wheelchair into the polling station is bound to draw attention to the flaws in the current system.

A shake up of the whole voting process has been called for after numerous cases like Mr Ditta's and the people unable to vote due to stations closing caused public uproar. - 38623

Best Political Jokes -Capitol Steps Political Satire - Current Political Jokes

By James Scott

Intellectual midgets and Pee Wee Herman The Congressman; Hell will freeze over before politicians can fix this economy.

The economy is in shambles. Unemployment is at an all-time high. Foreclosure has become an epidemic and we are looking to the same screw-up's who put us in this mess to get us out.

Seriously, and I say this with all due respect the handicapped and economically disadvantaged, we would have a better chance of grabbing a random homeless, blind, deaf, mute, quadriplegic out of a refrigerator box shanty in a west Philly alleyway and betting one million dollars that we could train him to win the Ironman in a week, than we ever will depending on succubus congressmen and senators to get us out of this mess of which they are responsible.

Congress will blame this meltdown on aliens and the chupacabra before they admit any wrong doing.

Turn on the news and you'll see an orgy of sweaty brow, finger-wagging and jaw-flapping politicians blaming a straw man CEO of an investment banking firm for ten years of his firm's economic gluttony and purging (though he's only been in this executive position for 90 days). It's a set up. Wake up. It's all just a distraction.

Bring in a clean cut yet power hungry executive, put him through rapid promotion from VP to CEO, tell him he's going to a press conference then blindfold him, lead him to a 3x3 ft closet, toss in a dozen stink bombs, 10 day old soiled adult diapers, bottle rockets and fire crackers, turn out the lights, take off the blindfold, throw in a rabid squirrel, slam the door shut and 5 days later let him out to and ask him to run the Boston Marathon wearing an eye patch, Speedo and flip-flops while waving pompoms. Let's get real. We need solutions, not a congressional Kid n' Play dance competition. It's a joke and we are the ones being laughed at; you, me and our children.

I have an idea! For the next presidential election we can have Pee Wee Herman run under the democratic ticket, the hunchback of notre dame can run under the republican ticket and we can have Chubaka run the CNN televised debate and we can have the post debate commentaries by Lady Gaga and the Teletubbies and why not? Americans would complain for 2 days and then buy the latest Asterix Comic for voting advice on the next election. - 38623

Health Secretary Sets Out NHS Spending

By Tom Doerr

The new Health Secretary Andrew Lansley has announced that NHS spending will increase in real terms but warned that to do so, extensive efficiency warnings were key. He explained how Labour's vast increase in health spending over their last decade in office was "not sustainable for the future". Some questioned how the coalition of parties with opposing views on health would affect the big question of spending but the Liberal Democrats have accepted a Conservative "ring-fence" to guarantee real-term increases in keeping with inflation.

During the election campaign, Vince Cable, now Business Secretary criticised the plan saying it would require deeper cuts elsewhere in Whitehall. On BBC Radio 4, Secretary Lansey declared that the Lib Dems had agreed the need for real term increases but acknowledged that it will impact upon other departments.

"We have come together as two parties, each with our own mandate from the General Election, but in order to secure the national interest," said Lansley. Although parliament has immediate plans to begin to cut the deficit and deal with the debt crisis, during the campaign the Conservative Party were very clear that they would not let the sick pay for Labour's debt crisis by making cuts to the National Health Service.

The Lib-Con government has planned to safeguard the NHS by ensuring that resources and spending are increased each year in real terms, but Lansey warned that just by protecting the real level of spending in relation to the level of inflation in the UK economy, it will not protect the NHS from the need to secure efficiency savings and to control pay and prices in the NHS.

The sustainable plan for the NHS is to deliver efficiency savings in the same way as the rest of the public sector. Due to the nature of the NHS, Lansley believes if they can secure efficiency savings they can reinvest that money into the NHS to deliver an improving service. Lansley finished by acknowledging that although this spending plan will affect other areas, it is unsustainable to cut the real value of the NHS budget - 38623
