How To Improve Global Decision-Making - 5 Steps To Make The World A Better Place

By Jeorge Poitier

Do you feel frustrated that you can't make a difference in the world? Well you are not alone in that belief. This article will detail how we could change the way the world is run - in 5 steps - to make it a better, more democratic place for everyone.

Step 1: Establish A World Parliament

The United Nations Security Council is where decisions with some of the greatest impact are made, and yet it is democratically deficient. Whilst all stages of government have some sort of parliamentary body, the highest level of governance - the UN - has none. We therefore need to change this by establishing a United Nations Parliamentary Assembly (UNPA) which would provide democratic representation of the people of the world.

Step 2: Nurturing a Public Mind Shift

There is currently a public mind shift which is taking place around the world and the formation of a UNPA could be part of this. Moreover, we need to enable more people to move to this higher level of understanding, so that they can view themselves as global citizens and not just as individuals or national citizens.

Step 3: Develop a New Global Political Philosophy based upon Conflict Resolution

Once a public mind shift has taken place, we can begin to form a new global political philosophy. This will be a fresh way of thinking which has moved on from the adversarial philosophy of the past.

Step 4: Developing Global Law

We need to move on from national interests and use global law to replace the current international legal system which has proved itself to be unable to cope with the transnational problems.

Step 5: A Transformed System of Global Governance

The result of following these steps will be that we can achieve a democratic system of global governance which provides representation for the people, by the people. This will mean that we can nurture a new generation of global leaders who are democratic, representing the voice of all the people of the world.

If we were to follow these steps, the world would certainly be a better place - we would have real representation on a global level, meaning that people could participate in the decision-making process and ensure that their voice is heard.
